Trade Theory – Semester 3

  1. DC Machines

    • Working principles of DC motors and generators

    • Types: Shunt, Series, Compound

    • Speed control, load testing, efficiency, and maintenance

  2. AC Motors

    • Induction motor: Single-phase and three-phase

    • Starters: DOL, Star-Delta

    • Rotor resistance, capacitor-type motors

  3. Transformers

    • Construction, working, and classification

    • Efficiency, losses, testing and maintenance

    • Auto-transformers and CT/PT applications

  4. Motor Control Circuits

    • Forward-reverse circuits

    • Star-delta starter wiring and timing

    • Overload protection, fuses, relays, contactors


Trade Practical – Semester 3

  1. Winding practice: armature and field coils

  2. Testing of DC motors and generators

  3. Installation of single/three-phase motors with control panel

  4. Transformer polarity testing and insulation resistance test

  5. Preparing control wiring for motors with interlocks


Trade Theory – Semester 4

  1. Power Distribution Systems

    • Substations and transmission lines

    • Faults in power systems and protection devices

    • Cable laying, underground and overhead systems

  2. Illumination and Energy Conservation

    • Light sources: Incandescent, fluorescent, LED

    • Lumen calculation and lighting design

    • Energy audit and conservation practices

  3. Electronic Devices (Basic)

    • Diodes, rectifiers, transistors

    • UPS, Inverter, and battery systems

    • Use of CRO, soldering and basic PCB work

  4. Earthing and Electrical Safety

    • Types of earthing: Pipe, plate, chemical

    • Earthing system testing

    • Electrical safety rules, ISI standards


Trade Practical – Semester 4

  1. Power factor improvement using capacitors

  2. Installation of lighting circuits with energy-saving fittings

  3. Testing and fault finding in panel boards

  4. Assembly of inverter/UPS circuits

  5. Final project: Designing and wiring a control panel for motor operations


Workshop Calculation & Science (Year 2)

  • Power factor, efficiency, and load calculations

  • Transformer losses and testing formulas

  • Cable sizing, voltage drop, and fault current

  • Tariff and energy billing calculations


Engineering Drawing (Year 2)

  • Motor and starter circuit diagrams

  • Wiring layout for control panels

  • Electrical machine symbols

  • Earthing layout and installation plans
