Trade Theory – Semester 3

  1. DC Machines

    • Construction, working, and types (motors and generators)

    • Starting, reversing, and speed control methods

    • Applications and troubleshooting of DC machines

  2. AC Motors & Alternators

    • Working principle of induction motors (single and three-phase)

    • Starters: DOL, Star-Delta, Autotransformer

    • Alternators: Construction, working, voltage regulation

  3. Transformer

    • Working principle and construction

    • Types: Power, distribution, auto transformers

    • Losses, efficiency, and testing

  4. Industrial & Domestic Installation

    • Load calculation and wiring layout

    • Earthing systems and lightning protection

    • Distribution board setup and protection devices


Trade Practical – Semester 3

  1. Winding Practice (DC motor, AC motor, transformers)

  2. Motor Control Panel Wiring & Testing

  3. Installation and Testing of Alternator & Induction Motors

  4. Testing of Earthing and Insulation Resistance

  5. Domestic Wiring Installation with MCB & RCCB


Trade Theory – Semester 4

  1. Electrical Power Systems

    • Generation, transmission, and distribution overview

    • Substations and switchgear equipment

    • Overhead and underground cables

  2. Illumination

    • Types of lighting systems

    • Light calculation and design

    • Energy-efficient lighting: LED, CFL, etc.

  3. Electronic Devices

    • Introduction to diodes, transistors, rectifiers

    • Inverter, UPS, and battery systems

    • Basic electronic circuit analysis

  4. Energy Conservation & Audit

    • Importance of energy conservation

    • Power factor improvement

    • Electrical load management


Trade Practical – Semester 4

  1. Power Distribution Board Installation

  2. Testing and Fault Finding in Motors

  3. Rewinding of Motor and Transformer (Advanced)

  4. Assembling UPS/Inverter System

  5. Substation Model Demonstration and Maintenance


Workshop Calculation & Science (Year 2)

  • Power factor correction

  • Transformer efficiency and losses

  • Load calculation and tariff

  • Cable size, fuse rating, and voltage drop calculations


Engineering Drawing (Year 2)

  • Schematic diagrams of control panels

  • Star/Delta, DOL starter wiring

  • Transformer winding diagrams

  • Installation layout plans

Final Project & Evaluation
